또 하나의 미주 뷰티서플라이업계 소매상인들의 전국 단체, <미주미래뷰티총연합회>(이하 미래연합)가 지난 달 10일 앤트란타뷰티협회(회장 이강하) 주최 16차 뷰티트레이드쇼 행사장에서 손영표 초대 총회장과 이시형 초대 이사장의 취임식을 갖고 공식 출범했다.
The United Future Beauty Supply Association of America (UFBSAA), a new national entity representing beauty supply retailers in the Americas, was officially unveiled on the 10th of the previous month. This landmark event coincided with the 16th Beauty Trade Show, organized by the George Antranta Beauty Supply Association, where Young-pyo Son was inaugurated as the association’s first president, and Si-hyung Lee took office as the inaugural chairman of the board.
이날 출범식은 쇼에 참가한 다수의 소매 및 도매업자들이 참석한 가운데, 동남부지역 조지아, 멤피스, 내쉬빌, 그리고 중부 미조리 지역의 소매상들이 참여하여 창설된 미래연은 박형권 상임고문, 박재종 감사, 한은섭, 박남권, 안병관 고문, 김종대, 최시영, 이강하 이사, 최재봉, 김재철, 현영실, 이정선, 김동욱, 전승주, 이현정, 그레이스 리 부회장 등의 임원진을 구성했다.
The ceremony, a highlight of the Beauty Trade Show, saw attendance from numerous retailers and wholesalers. Originating from a collaborative effort by retailers from Georgia’s southeastern locales, Memphis, Nashville, and central St. Louis, UFBSAA boasts a leadership team comprising notable figures such as Hyung-kwon Park, Nam-Kwon Park, Jae-jong Park, and others, marking a significant union within the industry.
임원/이사 & 협회원들이 참석한 이날 출범식에서 이시형 이사장은 “막중한 책임감을 느낀다.“ 면서 ”협회원 모두가 협력하여 업계 발전을 위해 최선의 노력을 다하자”고 취임 인사를 했다. 손영표 초대 회장은 “조지아 애틀랜타 뷰티협회에서 봉사했던 경험을 바탕으로 미래연을 이끌어 가겠다”고 말하면서, “위기가 닥치면 우리같은 소수 민족이 먼저 공격의 대상이 되었던 빠아픈 경험을 가지고 있다”고 말하고, 하나의 예로 ”다시는 코로나 19팬데믹 기간 아시안 커뮤니티가 겪었던 차별 대우가 반복되지 않도록 노력하겠다“고 강조했다. 또한 어떤 위기에서도 “총연합회가 하나가 되어 한 목소리가 널리 퍼지게 할 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
During the event, both Si-hyung Lee and Young-pyo Son addressed the gathering. Si-hyung Lee acknowledged the weight of his new role and called for collective efforts to advance the industry. Meanwhile, Young-pyo Son pledged to leverage his prior experience with the Georgia Atlanta Beauty Supply Association to guide UFBSAA. He emphasized a commitment to preventing the recurrence of the discrimination experienced by Asian communities during the COVID-19 crisis, advocating for unity and a singular voice in facing future challenges.
한편, 기존 미주뷰티서플라이총연합회(NFBS, 회장 조원형)에 이어 또 하나의 총연합회가 출범한 데 대한 비판적인 여론에 대해서 손영표 회장은 “새로운 타민족 경쟁자들이 밀려오고 있는 등 뷰티업계가 위기상태에 있음에도, NFBS가 총연의 역할을 제대로 하지 않고, 오히려 협회원들간 싸움을 부추겼다”고 미래연 창립의 주요 배경을 설명했다. 미래연은 지난해 8월 조지아주 비영리단체 법인으로 등록을 마쳤다고 한다.
The establishment of UFBSAA comes in the wake of criticism directed at the National Federation of Beauty Suppliers (NFBS) for its ineffective response to industry crises and its role in exacerbating tensions among associations. Young-pyo Son elucidated that the creation of UFBSAA, now a registered non-profit in Georgia as of August last year, was necessitated by the need for a more cohesive and effective leadership amidst the challenges posed by new market entrants and existing inter-association conflicts.
